These were selected for their use to make ice blocks for camping and not for ice baths. These are purpose built for making ice blocks, so they do a much better job than the silicone bread loaf pans used previously. The sides have ribs to make them more ridged, a fill line, and top lid. All of these elements greatly reduced the spillage on the way to freezer that was annoying about this task previously. It’s easy to remove the ice block if you take it out of the freezer and let it sit on the counter for a couple minutes. They are stackable with the lids, which is nice.I was planning on using it for storing homemade ice cream in the freezer as well, but the lid doesn’t seal like tupperware and air definitely gets in. I might be able to put it in a ziplock inside the ice block maker and it would help protect it more from freezerburn. It may not be worth it if it’s only something you need to make once or twice a year, especially at the price, but if it’s something you need to do regularly, they are definitely worth it!*Note*Vine reviewers are invited to select products on offer which Amazon then sends for free. There is no obligation to have a positive review and I try to review as honestly as possible so as not to deceive my fellow humans. There is no payment for reviewing and I have to pay tax on the items at the end of the year, so definitely try to pick things that will be helpful in daily life. I will plan on updating the review if my experience changes.*My rating method*1 star - Terrible. I wouldn't recommend purchasing.2 stars - Marginal at best. Doesn't meet the minimum requirements to be useful. Buy at your own risk.3 stars - Somewhat lacking. Meets requirements for a product of this type, but is not out of the ordinary and somewhat lacking. If the price is good, consider purchasing.4 stars - Average. Meets the requirements of a product of this type, but is not extraordinary. Consider purchasing.5 stars - Exceptional. Excellent and has some nice features as well as being reasonably priced for a product of this type. Highly recommend purchasing, if it will be useful to have another whangdoodle.
Ordered these for my cold plunge that didn't come with ice blocks and these worked great!
Last year, I started doing a daily cold plunge, using a stock tank that sits on our back patio. It can be a struggle to keep the temperature down close to freezing even during the colder parts of the year. And buying ice can get expensive in a hurry. I've tried other ice molds and ice cube trays, but these are larger and better than anything else I've tried. They're large and sturdy, and the tapered sides make it very easy to release the plug of ice. In my experience, they take about 24 hours in the freezer to freeze solid.
These are great. Easy to use. Love the kids. The ice comes out easily since you can bend the mold. They are durable and will last a long while.
i had ordered the larger version of these and i can safely say these are a way superior design.the silicone is rock solid but still flexible so it’s incredibly easy to fill up, transfer, freeze and dump.the lid has a locking mechanism that’s takes minimal effort to open. i was able to do it with one hand no problem.then a huge win is that the molds can stack on top of each other when they aren’t yet frozen so you can pile them up in your freezer.i am clumsy af but i didn’t spill a single drop of water taking these stacked up from my kitchen to my garage.i wish the larger versions were as well built as these but i will definitely be ordering another set.they hold a good size ice cube that doesn’t take too long to melt down and chill the water, they work so well after and i don’t see them breaking down after consistent usage, and its simpler and cheaper than many alternatives.
