Icebound Pro Chiller: Quick Guide to Keeping Your Cold Plunge Water Clean

By Sean the Pool Guy

Hey fellow cold plunge enthusiasts! Sean here, your friendly water-nerd guide to keeping your Icebound Pro Chiller sparkling and safe. Cold plunges are amazing for recovery, but even chilly water can get a little… funky if you don’t pay attention. Don’t worry—I’ve got a streamlined guide to help you stay on top of your water without turning it into a science experiment.

1. Test Your Water Like a Pro

Even though the Icebound Pro has a built-in ozone generator, it’s important to check your water chemistry regularly. For most home setups, focus on these key parameters:

  • pH: 7.2–7.8
  • Total Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
  • Sanitizer (optional hydrogen peroxide): 30–50 ppm

Testing is simple with strips or a liquid test kit. Check your water every 1–2 weeks, or whenever something looks off (cloudy water, unusual odor, or funky color). This keeps your plunge safe and your recovery sessions worry-free.

2. Filters: Tiny But Mighty

Your Icebound Pro uses a filter to keep particles out of the water while allowing plenty of flow. For many current users, this is still the original 5-micron filter, while our spare filters and new units have started moving to a 10-micron filter for improved flow and longer life. Proper maintenance keeps your chiller running smoothly and your water crystal-clear.

Filter care (same steps as before, streamlined):

  1. Remove the filter.
  2. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose.
  3. Soak in filter cleaner or a mild solution of bleach and water.
  4. Rinse again until water runs clear.
  5. Let dry and reinstall.

Do this every 2–3 weeks, or sooner if you see reduced flow or debris buildup. Remember: the circulating pump runs constantly while the unit is on, so your water is always moving and working with the ozone generator to stay clean.

3. Optional Chemicals: When You Need Extra Power

For most home users, the ozone generator is all you need. But for high-traffic scenarios—like a home gym with multiple daily users—you may want to add a supplemental sanitizer. We only recommend food-grade hydrogen peroxide.

Approximate dosing table for 100–150 gallon plunges:

Plunge Size

30% H₂O₂ Stock

35% H₂O₂ Stock

100 gal (378 L)

126 mL (~1/2 cup)

43 mL (~3 tbsp)

125 gal (473 L)

158 mL

54 mL

150 gal (568 L)

190 mL

63 mL

Add slowly, circulate for 15–20 minutes, and test your water to stay within 30–50 ppm.

⚠️ Important Safety Note: We’ve seen instances where certain off-the-shelf sanitizers, like Sirona Simply Sanitizer, have caused damage to cold plunge units. While we can’t speak to every ingredient in these products, experience shows that this particular sanitizer is not safe to use with your Icebound Pro Chiller. To protect your equipment, we do not recommend using this sanitizer under any circumstances. Stick with our recommended hydrogen peroxide dosing if you want a supplemental sanitizer.

4. Quick Tips for Cleaner Water

  • Shower before using your plunge. Oils and lotions can make water murky.
  • Keep the cover on when not in use to prevent debris from entering.
  • Test regularly. A little attention goes a long way.

Keeping your Icebound Pro Chiller water clean doesn’t have to be complicated. With proper testing, filter care, and optional hydrogen peroxide supplementation for high-use scenarios, your plunge will stay crystal clear—ready for recovery anytime. Stay chill! 🧊
